A 15-year-old boy who was repeatedly stabbed in an daylight park attack on Wednesday crawled to safety.
Police are questioning a 14-year-old boy about the stabbing and but are appealing for a woman driver, who stopped and helped, to contact Hounslow CID.
The 15-year-old was stabbed six times in the chest behind Isleworth library, in Redlees Park, and police confirmed the nearby Redlees youth offending centre was a major line of enquiry.
The teenager managed to crawl with to South Street with two friends when the female driver stopped and helped the teenagers.
They flagged down a passing police car and the woman drove off.
Detective Sergeant Sarah Swift, Hounslow CID, said: "The incident happened at quarter to five yesterday afternoon, a time when the park was busy.
“We believe this woman was going to drive the victim to hospital but when they saw a police car in South Street instead flagged down the officers. The driver of the vehicle then left as the officers dealt with the victim.
"We would very much like this woman to contact Hounslow CID as she may have vital evidence to assist the investigation."
Officers were called at 4.45pm on Wednesday and found the teenager bleeding profusely and he was taken to West Middlesex Hospital where his wounds were believed to be life threatening.
The boy is now in a serious but stable condition and police said they were interviewing witnesses today while still holding the 14-year-old boy.
Jeff Dosser, who works opposite the library at RCP Landscapes, said: “It is shocking. I have been here since 1961 and never heard of anything like this.
“I looked out of my window and saw a police car with officers talking to two youths but I had no idea what happened. It was only later when the road was blocked off we found out. It is horrifying to think it happened in a park with families around.”
Staff at the library said they noticed police had condoned the area behind their building off and said they were shocked when they saw news of the stabbing.
Anyone with any information should contact Hounslow CID on 0208 247 6160 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
